Mexico introduced the electronic version of the application form called Forma Migratoria Múltiple Electrónica, or FMME in 2016 which can be easily obtained online. Mexican Government announced the Electronic Authorization System which allows the citizens of the eligible countries who want to visit Mexico to obtain a Tourist card for tourism or business-related trips, called Sistema de Autorización Electrónica or SAE. The card is offered for single entry only with a validity of 180 days. The maximum stay limit can exceed up to 180 days once you arrive at Mexico. Travellers who will enter in Mexico by land or sea, do not need to apply for SAE. No transit visa is required if the stay period is not exceeding 24 hours of time. A Mexico Tourist card is an official travel authorization for foreign nationals who need to obtain a permit to enter Mexico. The Mexico Tourist Card land or air visa application form is generally the same. There are three sections of the form. In the first section, the application will provide personal information, including full name, date of birth, occupation, parents’ names, city of residence, physical address, email address, and contact number.
The next section of the application form is about gathering travel-related data. You will select the type of visa required, purpose of travel, and expected date of travel. Furthermore, you will enter your passport number, its issue date and expiration date.

There is no difference between the processing time or fees for tourist card air and tourist card land. Mexico Tourist Card works as an e-visa and sticker visa. That’s because although you receive it online, you will need to get it stamped at the port of entry to validate it. If you want to live in Mexico for more than 180 days, you will require a Mexico Temporary Resident Visa. On the other hand, if the INM issues the FMM for less than the maximum validity period, such as 60 days instead of 180 days, then you can extend it to full 180 days. You can apply for a tourist card extension only while staying in Mexico.
If you have overstayed your stay, the immigration office will impose a fine. Immediately visit an immigration office in your area of residence or the immigration centre at the airport to pay the fine. The amount will be calculated after examining the number of additional days you have spent in Mexico after your tourist card expired. Then you will have to obtain an Exit Visa to depart from Mexico.
