I want to go to Bosnia and Herzegovina as a tourist.

By MD SHAHIN UDDIN   For Bosnia and Herzegovina Sep 23,2025

Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the Western Balkans.
The country's name comes from the two regions Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose borders have never been defined. Historically, the official name Bosnia never included many of its regions until before the Austro-Hungarian occupation.

Most of the country's mountains are mountainous, encompassing the Central Dinaric Alps.

Overall, about 50% of Bosnia and Herzegovina is forested. Most of the forest is located in the central, eastern, and western parts of Bosnia. Herzegovina's climate is arid Mediterranean, with a dominant karst landform. Northern Bosnia (Posavina) has very fertile agricultural land along the Sava River, and the area is heavily cultivated. This agricultural land is part of the Pannonian Plain, which extends into neighboring Croatia and Serbia.

Sarajevo is the capital and largest city. Other major cities include Banja Luka and Prijedor in the northwestern region known as Bosanska Krajina, Tuzla, Bijeljina, Doboj and Brčko in the northeast, Zenica in the central part of the country, and Mostar, the largest city in the southern region of Herzegovina.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has seven major rivers:

The Drina River flows through the eastern part of Bosnia and, for most of its length, forms a natural border with Serbia.
The Neretva is the main river of Herzegovina and the only major river that flows south and empties into the Adriatic Sea.
