Obtaining a visa for South Africa

By Eva   For Tajikistan Aug 28,2025

I would like to travel home to South Africa at the end of the year and would like to take my partner, a Tajik citizen with me. However, we are in Moscow, Russia and the only consulate that is prepared to help him is in Kazakhstan.

Is there a way we can obtain a visitors visa without having to travel to Kazakhstan?

We have been to the embassy in Moscow and they have made the process very difficult for us.

Thanking you in advance for your response.

Kind regards,

Eva Watson

Hey Eva Watson, I’ve been in a similar situation with a friend who needed a South Africa visa while living abroad, so here’s what I learned. Unfortunately, Tajik citizens are not eligible to apply online for a South African visa, and the visa must be issued through a South African embassy or consulate that handles their nationality. Since the Moscow embassy isn’t processing visas for Tajik citizens, there isn’t an official way around traveling to the consulate that is authorized — in this case, Kazakhstan. It’s frustrating, I know, but the rules are strict for certain nationalities. The best approach is to contact the South African consulate in Kazakhstan directly to check whether they allow document submission by post or if an appointment is required, as sometimes embassies offer alternative procedures for residents abroad. Safe travels, and I hope you find a smooth way to get your partner’s visa sorted!
