Covid-19 Guideline

People who intend to come to Malawi are required to; Produce a PCR negative certificate of not more than 10 days old from a designated testing laboratory of the country of origin, country of residence, or country previously visited duly signed by approved signatories.

If a traveler arrives at the point of entry in Malawi without a valid certificate, she/he will be required to have a nasopharyngeal sample taken to be tested for COVID-19 at the following costs payable upfront.

• If a foreigner: USD 100.00

The traveler will be required to proceed to his/her destination for self-quarantine and results will follow.

If a foreigner tests positive she/he will be managed according to the guidelines of Malawi at her/his cost.

If a foreigner decides to go back home whilst still positive she/he will be required to travel whilst maintaining the COVID-19 protocols of physical distancing, hand hygiene, and masking at her /his cost.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENT

E-Visa applicants must upload scanned documents and NOT camera captured photos.

Applications with unclear or blurred document will be NOT ACCEPTED.

Photo Requirement:

Photo must be color.

Photo should be not older than 6 months.

Face expression must be neutral and No reflection on face.

Photograph cropped from Passport Page is NOT acceptable.

The background should be uniform.

Visa Application may be REJECTED if the uploaded Photo is not as per specification.

MRZ/ Machine Readable Zone of Passport MUST BE CLEARLY VISIBLE.

Passport Data page must show all information and photograph of the Applicant.

If any portion of Passport Data Page is not clear, then the Application may be REJECTED.

If the passport copy tilted, skewed or blurred, then the Application may be REJECTED.

DEFINITIONS

Visa as defined in regulation 2 of the Immigration Regulations (under the Immigration Act Cap 15:03 of the Laws of Malawi), means an authority (in form of a sticker, endorsement or entry) in a passport or other travel document made by an immigration officer or any official of the government authorized to do so to indicate that the bearer thereof has been granted permission to enter or re-enter Malawi.

There are five types of visas issued by the Government of Malawi namely:

(a) TOURIST VISA

This is issued to persons intending to enter Malawi for VISITS or RESIDENCE or BUSINESS. It is valid for 3 months and can only be used once.

(b) TRANSIT VISA

This is issued to persons intending to transit through Malawi for a period of seven days and can only be used once.

(c) OFFICIAL VISA

This is issued to persons holding official/service passport on government official visits to Malawi. It is valid for 3 months and can only be used once.

(d) COURTESY VISA

This is issued to persons holding either official/service or ordinary passport e. g a person on a visit invited by the Government of Malawi if he or she is not entitled to a diplomatic visa. It may also be issued to other persons considered to be desirable on grounds of international courtesy. This visa is valid for 3 months and can only be used once.

(e) DIPLOMATIC VISA

This is issued to a person holding a diplomatic passport on official visit or mission to Malawi. This visa is valid for 3 months and can only be used once.
