EU Rolls Out Multi-Entry Schengen Visas for Indonesians as 10-Year Trade Talks Conclude

Easier Repeat Trips to Europe
Europe just opened its doors wider. Indonesians returning for a second (or tenth) visit can now apply for a multi-entry Schengen visa—good for up to 5 years, depending on past travel history.
One sticker in the passport lets them roam 29 Schengen countries without extra border stops, saving time on paperwork and endless queues.
“Unity in diversity is in both our mottos. Today we’re turning that spirit into real benefits for people,” von der Leyen told reporters, drawing a quick smile from President Prabowo.
Who Gains the Most?
- Frequent flyers: one visa, multiple getaways
- Students & academics: smoother access to exchanges and research trips
- Entrepreneurs & deal-makers: quick hops for meetings in Paris or Berlin
- Families: simpler visits to loved ones across Europe
Landmark Trade Pact Finally Wrapped Up
Visas weren’t the only headline. After a decade of back-and-forth talks, Indonesia and the EU have closed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Once ratified, the pact will scrap most tariffs on key Indonesian exports, giving homegrown producers a fairer shot on European shelves.

Clean-Energy Projects Already Under Way
Shared goals didn’t stop at trade. The leaders pointed to their just energy transition partnership, which is funding new solar and wind farms across Java and Sumatra. The aim: slash emissions while creating local jobs.
What Happens Next?
The visa change is effective immediately. Travel agents expect a spike in bookings for autumn. Universities are lining up new exchange slots, and analysts predict Indonesian brands will show up more often in European stores once CEPA takes full effect.
Europe feels a little closer today for tourists hunting Christmas markets, students chasing degrees, and exporters eyeing new customers alike.
