Ukraine's Digital Welcome: Reopening Borders with e-Visa for 45 Nations

In a decisive move to boost its tourism sector, Ukraine has officially resumed its electronic visa (e-Visa) program for travellers from 45 countries starting February 17, 2025. This announcement marks the end of a two-year suspension that began in 2022 due to regional conflicts.
Digital Transformation of Visa Processing
Launched originally in April 2018, Ukraine's e-Visa system revolutionised travel by allowing eligible visitors to apply online—eliminating the need for time-consuming consulate visits. The reinstatement signals a renewed commitment from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to welcome international travellers and revitalise the tourism industry.

Versatile Visa Options
The e-Visa program caters to various travel purposes, including tourism, business, education, cultural exchanges, sports, medical treatment, and journalistic endeavours. This flexibility ensures that a wide array of visitors can benefit from Ukraine's streamlined entry procedures.
Streamlined Application Process
Travellers from the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and select European and Caribbean nations can now access a simplified, fully digital application process. Applicants are required to:
- Register on the Ukrainian Ministry’s e-Visa portal.
- Complete the online application with personal details and travel information.
- Upload essential documents such as a valid passport, recent photo, health insurance (minimum coverage of €30,000), proof of funds, and supporting travel documents (e.g., hotel reservation or invitation letter).
Affordable and Efficient
The visa fees are competitively set at US$20 for a single-entry visa and US$30 for a double-entry visa, with an option for expedited processing at an additional cost. Standard applications are processed within three business days, while urgent requests can be completed in just one business day.
Looking Ahead: The ETA Initiative
As part of their larger plan to improve tourist experiences and economic recovery, Ukrainian officials are also working on an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system to streamline entrance for travellers from visa-free countries, which is happening at the same time as the e-Visa relaunch.
